The glass of Bubbly show 2023

The glass of Bubbly show is a prestigious sparkling wine event every budding somellier and champagne lover in London needs to attend.

Prosecco tasting
Held at the 5 star sheraton Grand hotel in London on the 25th April 2023. With 12 tables of new and award winning wines from popular global wine regions to savour.

I enjoyed tasting and learning about the wines and champagne on offer. Thinking myself an extra brut lover, I left the show under the realisation that I much prefer the less dry. Sugar free wine varieties.

Masterclasses and workshops at the glass of Bubbly show sold out fast.

The Different Types of Champagne

Champagne is a sparkling wine that comes from the Champagne region in France. It's made using specific methods and grapes, which give it its unique taste and effervescence.

While most people think of champagne as a single type of drink, there are actually several different types that vary in sweetness, style, and flavor.

One of the most common types of champagne is brut, which is dry with very little residual sugar. Extra-brut is even drier than brut while demi-sec has more residual sugar making it sweeter. Blanc de blancs only uses white grapes such as Chardonnay while blanc de noirs uses only red grapes like Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier.

Rosé champagne gets its pink color from adding small amounts of still red wine to the blend during production while prestige cuvée champagnes come from the best vineyards and have longer aging times resulting in higher quality wines.

Understanding the differences between these various styles can help you choose the right one for your next celebration or special occasion.

How to Choose the Right Champagne for You

Choosing the right champagne can be a daunting task, especially if you're not familiar with the different types and styles available. The first thing to consider is your budget. Champagne prices vary widely depending on factors such as brand, age, and production method.

Next, determine what occasion or meal you are serving the champagne for. If it's an elegant dinner party or celebration, then a vintage champagne would be appropriate. For a casual brunch or afternoon gathering, a non-vintage brut may suffice.

Consider also the sweetness level of the champagne. From driest to sweetest: brut nature/zero dosage; extra brut; brut; extra dry/extra sec; dry/sec/trocken; demi-sec/halbtrocken; doux/süß/sweet.

Don't hesitate to ask for recommendations from wine professionals at your local shop or restaurant. They can guide you towards champagnes that fit both your taste preferences and budget.

By considering these factors when choosing your next bottle of bubbly, you'll ensure that it perfectly complements any occasion or meal while satisfying your palate!

How to Store and Serve Champagne

Storing and serving champagne is a crucial aspect of enjoying this elegant beverage to the fullest. To get the best experience, you must store your bottle of bubbly properly before popping it open.

Firstly, always keep your champagne bottles in a cool and dark place away from direct sunlight. The ideal temperature for storing champagne is between 45-50°F (7-10°C). Avoid storing it in the fridge for extended periods as the vibration can disturb the sediment in the bottle.

Secondly, when opening a bottle of champagne, make sure to chill it beforehand so that it's at its optimal temperature (around 40°F or 4°C) - not too cold and not too warm. Once opened, try to consume within an hour or two since exposure to air will cause bubbles to escape quickly.

Thirdly, use proper glassware when serving your bubbly. A flute glass allows you to appreciate both aroma and taste while preserving carbonation due to their narrow shape compared with broader coupe glasses which tend waste bubbles faster.

Pour slowly about one-third full initially then tilt up slowly until three-quarters full avoiding spills while keeping fully intact all those lovely little gas pockets waiting inside!

Conclusion

The Glass of Bubbly show is an event that no champagne lover should miss. With so many different types of champagne available, it can be difficult to choose the right one for you. However, by considering your personal taste preferences and food pairings, you can easily find a champagne that suits your palate.

The best champagnes will undoubtedly be showcased at the event, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to discover new favorites and expand their knowledge about this luxurious beverage.

Remember to store and serve your champagne correctly in order to truly appreciate its flavor profile. And don't forget to enjoy responsibly!

I highly recommend attending the Glass of Bubbly show next year if you're a fan of all things bubbly. You won't regret indulging in some of the world's finest champagnes while mingling with fellow enthusiasts!
