Review of Sexy Fish London's most popular restaurant
Imagine going to a Asian restaurant which is all about seafood. Only to order all the vegetarian options.
Well that's exactly what I did.
Sexy fish is an Asian fusion restaurant. Designed by Martin Brudnizki. For Caprice holdings.
Initially when sexy fish first opened their doors at Berkeley Square in 2015. There wasn't much in the way of vegetarian or vegan menu choices.
A Feast for the Eyes: Dazzling Features and Jaw-Dropping Design
Now, let's talk about the real showstopper—the interior. Word on the street is that the team behind Sexy Fish spared no expense on the décor, with investment figures floating up to a staggering £20 million. And it certainly shows.
Walk in and you're welcomed by an ambience that's as glitzy as it is inviting. The lighting isn't just functional; it's practically theatrical, casting everything (and everyone) in a flattering, almost magical glow. You’ll spot an impressive bar lighting up one side of the room, with an open view into the bustling kitchen on the opposite end—a welcome treat for anyone who enjoys watching the culinary action live.
Downstairs, things get even more intriguing. Although I didn't venture down myself, there's a private dining area known as the Coral Room, rumored to house two of the largest living coral reef tanks on the planet. It's not every day you get your miso aubergine or vegetable tempura served surrounded by such a spectacle!
What the Critics Have Said
Sexy Fish has certainly made a splash in London dining circles, and not everyone has been subtle about their opinions. Media outlets ranging from The Spectator to The Guardian have weighed in, with some critics painting a very vivid picture: they've called the vibe unapologetically bold, brash, and even ostentatious.
In fact, some reviewers have described the décor as if it were tailor-made for those who want to dine in a glittering, larger-than-life aquarium—but with gold on the walls and a side order of extravagance. For certain traditionalists, Sexy Fish represents the flash and flair of "new money": loud, proud, and not afraid to show off.
Of course, these strong opinions are all just part of Sexy Fish's unique charm. Whether you love or loathe the theatrical glitz, no one can claim it's boring.
Celebrity Spotting at Sexy Fish
Now, you might be wondering—does Sexy Fish live up to its reputation as London’s glittering hotspot for the rich and famous? If you’ve seen the tabloid snaps or heard whispers over cocktails, you’ll know it attracts quite a glitzy crowd.
Though I didn’t personally rub elbows with Prince Harry, David Beckham, or Rita Ora (and not a single glimpse of Kate Moss in sight!), Sexy Fish is indeed known for drawing in A-listers alongside London’s well-heeled set. Jetsetters, celebrities, and yes, those who may or may not have a private yacht moored somewhere in the Med, have all graced its velvet banquettes. You’ll spot everything from city types to the just-off-a-jet crowd, making for prime people-watching.
Still, while you can’t bank on bumping into the Beckhams, the restaurant’s buzz and celebrity reputation are more than just rumours. Whether you go for the famous seafood platters or the equally dazzling crowd, there’s no shortage of sparkle - on or off the menu.
The Sexy Fish Lunch Deal: What's on Offer?
But let's talk about what's currently on the menu, literally. Sexy Fish now features a tempting lunchtime deal that doesn't break the bank. Running from Monday to Saturday between 12 noon and 6 pm, you can enjoy two courses for just £32.
Here's how it works:
Start with a duo of tapas-style plates.
Then move on to your choice of a main dish.
While dessert isn't included in this offer, you can always add one—either from the special menu at a friendlier price or indulge in the full à la carte selection for more variety.
Every guest also receives a miso soup and a little detox shot to kick things off, which is a nice touch. So whether you're plant-powered or pescatarian, lunch at Sexy Fish is definitely worth considering—delicious, fun, and still leaves room for dessert if you’re feeling fancy.
Thankfully. That's all changed.
I must declare. That Sexy fish has to be the liveliest and one of the best restaurants I've ever been to!
It's no wonder sexy fish is currently ranked amongst the most popular of all high end restaurants in London.
Now, onto the food itself—my friends had no major complaints and would probably rate their experience a solid 3, or 3.5 out of 5.
Personally, I was genuinely pleased with most of the dishes. A respectable 4 out of 5 from me. While we didn’t spot Prince Harry, David Beckham, Matt Damon, Mick Jagger, Rita Ora, Lindsay Lohan, or Kate Moss holding court at the next table (as you sometimes hear about), I’d still happily come back for another meal anytime.
It’s worth noting, though, that the £32-for-two-courses deal makes the prospect all the more appealing. I’m not sure the a-la-carte menu is quite so enticing for those of us without a private yacht or jet, but the overall experience—food, atmosphere, and people-watching—certainly makes Sexy Fish a destination worth visiting.

The bar at sexy fish |
That's no easy accomplishment. But when a restaurant is designed so well.
SHOP MY LOOK
That you feel like you're in a museum. Or art gallery. You begin to see why.
The unique artistry of Frank Gehry. Michael Roberts and Damien Hirst has brought the restaurant alive.
Visitors to the restaurant can marvel at a 13ft crocodile against a wall in the main dining room.
With every seat in the house full at all times during our stay.
Leading up to our date night at sexy fish. There were limited slots available. Even when we tried to Pre-book.
So make sure you book in advance. Don't just expect a walk in table.
We arrived at sexy fish on a Monday at 8.30pm. To a full house. With a booming sound system, playing upbeat tracks. Selected by a female dj.
I noticed later into the night. There were two dining tables. Uniquely positioned close on either side of the dj. On a podium style platform.
As we descended further into the night. Anybody under the age of 18 was no longer permitted entry.
The music grew even louder. With the addition of colourful lights dancing across the room.
Plus strobe lighting that could rival that of your favourite nightclub. The environment was fun.

Son of Gibraltar and Neonach cocktails |
The cocktail menu at sexy fish is a 20 cocktail strong. Well thought through book. That reads like a magazine.
It showcases each unique cocktail available. From bar to table at sexy fish.
As much as the cocktail book itself was thoroughly descriptive. Sometimes the words and amount of options can be overwhelming.
Which is where the friendly waiters in smart. Velvet. Sexy fish blazers are more than willing to help.
I asked one waiter his favourite cocktail from the list. To which he instantly pointed to two. For their sweet and sour appeal.
Thankfully he seemed to have the same palette as me. When it comes to cocktails.
Had I not asked a waiter for his opinion. I would have made the mistake of ordering the curry me home cocktail.
Which is labelled as smokey and velvety in the menu. The waiter made a face at it and said it tastes like a cold curry. Which is a little too unique for my taste buds I think!

My favourite dish at sexy fish |
Though I do like to be challenged by my cocktails and try something different when I go out. So who knows.
Maybe I'll give it a try on a future visit to sexy fish.
I ordered the son of Gibraltar cocktail upon the waiters suggestion. Son of Gibraltar is a tangy. Sweet but noticeably strong tasting cocktail that I enjoyed.
With three different syrups on the outside of the glass. Providing a different taste experience. Depending on which side you drink from.
We also couldn't resist trying the neonach.
Mostly for the aesthetic appeal.
Neonach is the most underwater looking and sounding cocktail on the menu. And the most aquatic cocktail you'll probably ever taste. Or see anywhere in the world!
Cocktail highlights and palate pleasers
Everyone in our group was rather pleased with the libations. Even though I'm not much of a cocktail drinker, I thoroughly enjoyed how the strong, fruity strawberry flavours in my glass completely took the edge off the Toki whisky and anise.
We also sampled a palate cleanser made with orange, apple, ginger, beetroot and lime juice—it worked a treat, balancing out the boldness of the cocktails before our food arrived.
Soon after, tiny portions of miso soup made their way to the table. Run-of-the-mill, perhaps, but tasty and welcome as a warming start.
I hope you're enjoying my honest. In depth review of sexy fish.

The monolith cocktail at sexy fish looks quite inventive too. Resembling an oyster.
I recommend to arrive a little earlier than 8.30pm if you wish to try the monolith. As it was sold out during our late evening time slot.
Along with one or two a la carte food menu options.
The neonach cocktail is presented in a glass tumbler. Surrounded by a stunning display of fiery red coral.
The drink itself has a mildly sweet. Mildly fishy taste. Thanks to actual salmon off cuts included in the drink.
It's a drink that works quite well. Marrying perfectly with the extensive seafood options available at sexy fish.

Cocktails at sexy fish are strong enough for you to be content with just one, and definitely no more than two!
The kitchen is semi open plan. Further along the same platform. Where a dj can be seen occupying the other end.
It adds to the energy of the restaurant.
Arriving at our table for the night. We were given some complimentary. Salted edamme and water.
Our personal server introduced himself and took pride in explaining the concept behind the a la carte menu.
At sexy fish. All dishes are designed to be shared.
Our table was ours for two hours. Which is a really nice amount of time. Most other restaurants usually only give between 1 hour 30 and 1 hour 45 minutes to guests of up to two.
The time does fly by when you're enjoying the restaurant and your company. So two hours is a recommended time slot.
It gives guests enough time to sift through each menu at a relaxed pace. Plus digest, before moving on to the next food or drink item.

Lunch Menu Offerings at Sexy Fish
For those considering a midday treat, Sexy Fish currently features a two-course lunch deal priced at £32, running Monday to Saturday from noon until 6pm. This set menu has a fun tapas-style twist for the first course—you'll select any two small plates to kick things off, followed by your choice of one main dish for the second course.
While dessert isn't bundled into the lunch deal, it can always be tacked on for an extra indulgence, either by choosing from the special set menu selection or splurging on the wider à la carte range for a bit more variety. As an added bonus, every guest receives a complimentary miso soup and a detox shot, helping to set the tone for a light-yet-luxurious experience.
Vegetarian-Friendly Choices
Vegetarians are far from an afterthought here. You'll find plenty of meat-free options among the small plates—think bright baby gem lettuce and avocado drizzled in chili-soy, savoury edamame gyoza, or other inventive veggie bites. Mains for vegetarians might include crispy truffled tofu served with creamy avocado and zesty lime, all crafted to be as satisfying as their seafood and meat counterparts.
Other Temptations
For pescatarians or those in the mood for seafood, the small plates span everything from salmon ceviche and yellowtail gunkan to prawn gyoza or tuna & shishito skewers. Popular mains include salmon teriyaki and grilled seabass with a zingy ginger chili sauce, often paired nicely with a side of fragrant basmati rice for sharing.
No proper lunch at Sexy Fish would be complete without a creative cocktail. Whether you fancy something tangy and citrusy, berry-bright, or a little bolder with anise, the cocktail menu is just as playful and adventurous as the food.
So if you’re after a little midweek decadence—vegetarian, pescatarian, or just plain hungry—the lunch deal covers all the bases, letting everyone in your group find something to love.
Are There Any Additional Charges at Sexy Fish?
As is fairly typical for restaurants in this part of Mayfair, Sexy Fish does add a couple of extra items to your bill. You can expect a small cover charge of £2 per person, as well as a 14.5% service charge on your final bill. These are automatically included, so it's worth keeping in mind when budgeting for your night out.
We ordered the vegetarian sushi and maki selection. Which included 5 different pieces each.
A total of 10 for sharing. All of the vegetable sushi and maki dishes were delicious.
It's really clever how they prepare the red pepper and rice maki. To resemble salmon maki.
The platter consisted of the perfect balance of crispy. Crunchy. Soft and smooth textures.
With ingredients such as sweet potato. Mushroom and of course nori.
In fact, some reviewers have described the décor as if it were tailor-made for those who want to dine in a glittering, larger-than-life aquarium—but with gold on the walls and a side order of extravagance.

Main Courses and Standout Dishes
When it came to the main courses, we were truly spoiled for choice. Our vegetarian friend went with the crispy truffled tofu, paired beautifully with avocado and lime. This arrived adorned with whisper-thin slices of truffle, so delicate that even the faintest breeze threatened to whisk them away. She was thoroughly impressed, savoring every last bite—always a good sign when you’re sharing plates.
Ellie chose the salmon teriyaki for her main, leaning into the subtle flavors she loves. She was all smiles and definitely content. Personally, I opted for the grilled seabass, fresh off the robata grill. It arrived perfectly charred on one side—just the right balance of smoky and tender. The ginger-chilli sauce it came with was hearty, almost gravy-like, and packed a warming, bold kick. For me, it bordered on perfection and felt like a generous reward after digging into the other smaller plates.
Comparing the Salmon Ceviche and Tuna & Shishito Skewer
When it comes to portion size, the salmon ceviche really surprised me—the serving was generous, much bigger than I usually expect at upscale spots like Sexy Fish. But I did find myself wishing the salmon had been cut more thinly, as it would’ve allowed the marinade (that iconic tiger’s milk) to really soak in and bring the flavors alive. As it was, the taste was a bit too gentle for my liking, missing the zesty punch I look for in a great ceviche.
Now, the tuna and shishito skewer made more of an impression in terms of texture than bold flavors. The shishito pepper had a lovely crunch—a subtle bitter note that held its own alongside the lightly seared cubes of tuna. The tuna itself was fresh but didn’t quite set off fireworks on the palate. Still, it paired nicely with the shishito, making for an enjoyable, if understated, addition to our spread.
Yellowtail Gunkan at Sexy Fish
Next up was the yellowtail gunkan, which quickly stole the spotlight at our table. If you've never had gunkan before, it's a clever style of sushi where a small mound of rice is hugged by a tall strip of nori, forming a sort of edible boat. Into this little vessel, the chefs at Sexy Fish pack delicately diced cubes of yellowtail, reminiscent of a tartare.
The combination is everything you’d hope for—melt-in-the-mouth yellowtail, rich and silky, paired with that subtle ocean taste from the nori. A swipe of wasabi, a dab of pickled ginger, and a dip into soy sauce brings it all together in a big, blissful burst of flavour. It’s easy to see why this dish is a stand-out—each bite leaves you looking forward to the next.

Bathroom mirror selfie time! |
We also enjoyed the Sweet corn fried rice and dry miso. So much so that this dish takes the number one spot. I had not expected to enjoy it so much.
The eryngii mushroom tempura. Truffle and aka miso was a delicious. Close runner up.
The only complaint of my time at sexy fish. Was the quality of their vegetable tempura.
The seasonal vegetable tempura. Is a dish I usually love. Here at sexy fish it was horrible!
Claiming to include 9 kinds of vegetables. Yet I was barely aware of two. This tempura tasted like plain batter.
Ridiculously thin. Unnoticeable slices of vegetables were used. Mostly potato. Fried into the oily batter.
Any good vegetable tempura. Includes a variety of fresh. Chunky vegetables. Such as asparagus. Carrots and mushrooms.
I could have done without dessert too. As it wasn't up there with my favourite dishes of the night.
Warm. Soft. Sugary doughnuts are served with a smooth. Molten chocolate dip. Plus a tangy. Creamy lemon curd. It was nice. Just not amazing.
We also tried a couple of other desserts from the lunch menu. The coffee chocolate delice arrived paired with a delicate peach sorbet. Which was unexpectedly refreshing next to the rich chocolate.
Then there were the petit fours. A bit of a letdown, if I'm honest. The highlight was a cute fish-shaped caramel biscuit, but the odd jelly blob tasted strangely medicinal. The mango ice cream, however, was a pleasant surprise: creamy, sweet, and bursting with real mango flavour.
Each dessert looked beautiful when served—almost too pretty to eat—but overall, nothing really wowed me in the way the savoury dishes had.
In terms of the bar. Sexy fish is a place I highly recommend.
Just for a visit to the bar alone. With an amazing sound system and live dj. Plus excellent service from most of the staff.
The stunning bar area houses giant. Overhead hanging fish installations by Frank Gehry. To a backdrop of constant flowing window waterfalls.
I'm amazed to find out that sexy fish houses the world's largest Japanese whisky collection.
The lighting effect that happens into the night is the finishing touch. Somehow pulling me further into the idea of being under the sea.
It reminds me of light dancing on the waters surface. Plus the light show and activity taking place in the depths of the ocean.
Every detail here is dialed up to the max. Lighting is so thoughtfully designed, it doesn’t just set the mood—it transforms the whole experience, adding a little magic and drama to every corner. The main dining room is cleverly laid out, with a lively bar on one side. You can even peek through to the kitchen on the far side—always a bonus for those who love to watch the action unfold.
Even the ceiling at sexy fish is patterned with coral and the large. Black crocodile sculpture on a wall. Adjacent windows in the upstairs dining room is unmissable.
Downstairs lies the coral reef room. A private dining space. Featuring two of the largest live coral reef tanks in the world!
Rumour has it the interior cost upwards of twenty million pounds. But the result is a space that feels like you’ve wandered into an extravagant underwater dreamscape.
